The Federal Art Project (FAP) fell under the jurisdiction of Federal Project No. 1 of the Works Progress Administration (WPA). Jean Goodwin Ames, painter, muralist, sculptor and ceramicist, was born and raised in Santa Ana, Calif. She first studied art at the Art Institute of Chicago and received a B.A. from U.C.L.A. in 1931 and a Masters in Fine Arts from U.S.C. in 1937. She taught art at Citrus Hish School and Junior College from 1933-1936 and at Scripps College and Claremont Graduate School from 1940-1969.
